NC – Davidson Alumni
Davidson Alumni for a Viable Future (Open to DAVF members)
CTTT-DAVF is a newly formed CTTT Virtual Group open only to DAVF members and is led by those members.
“DAVF is an informal network consisting primarily of Davidson alumni. It is not otherwise affiliated with Davidson College, and any views expressed, or positions taken by DAVF and its members should not be considered as those of Davidson College.” (DAVF Charter, p. 2 “Our Guiding Principles”)
The members of DAVF commit to collaborating with each other and all interested individuals to create networks of people, processes, and ideas dedicated to a sustainable environment with undergirding principles and methods consistent with the original intent of our forebears to ensure justice, domestic tranquility, common defense, the general welfare and liberty – not only for ourselves but particularly for our posterity.
To sustain our environment, we identify the current issues listed below as needing collaborative and interlinked attention. These issues may change from time to time.
- Climate Change
- Threats to Democracy—the Severe Divisions of the US Citizenry
- Racial Injustice
- Economic Inequality
- Inadequate Healthcare
A common thread to most if not all the issues is the practice of racism; which, if our visions succeed racism must end. Toward that goal of dismantling racism and systemic racism, Coming to the Table has become our common model for understanding through conversation.
DAVF members reside across the country while collaborating on common ideals for the good of our world and future generations. As we moved into 2021 the membership was at 58 members with plans underway to grow significantly in the coming months by merging our common interests with other Davidson Alumni groups. It is possible for alumni groups affiliated with other universities to share this mission, these goals, and our methods. They are invited be merged into a common vision. We can together become the change. If you are affiliated with alumni of another college or university, we are happy to discuss our path with you with the possibility that your alumni would develop a similar focus.
CTTT-DAVF formed in 2021 as a DAVF action program led by an advisory group of DAVF members with special interest in “Systemic Racism.” A series of CTTT-DAVF conversations subscribing to the Coming to the Table principles and values and following the CTTT model for understanding racism through conversation will begin in March 2021.
Meetings are scheduled for March and April on Thursday and Saturday so as to gather interest and grow participation. After April 2021, a revised schedule will be posted.
