New York City Metro

img_7526_choiceThe Northeast/NY Metro group has drawn participants from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Gatherings have been held in member homes and other locations; often at the Quaker Meeting House, located on 15th Street, between 3rd and 2nd Avenue. This group typically meets every other month.

The group has participated in several “field trips” together, including the 50th Anniversary March on Washington in 2013, the films 12 Years a Slave, The Help, and Belle, and a trip to the Brooklyn Historical Society to view the exhibit “In Pursuit of Freedom-Brooklyn Abolitionists” followed by tea and small meal for follow-up discussion.

Members have participated with The Slave Dwelling Project, sponsored an appearance and reception for the authors of Gather at the Table, and have been interviewed on television and radio on topics including genealogy, family history, race, identity, and white privilege.
